Cisco ASA DMZ Configuration Example
This configuration example walks you through creating two DMZ security levels on a Cisco ASA firewall. The information applies to legacy Cisco ASA 5500s (i.e. ASA 5505, 5510 and 5520) as well as the next-gen ASA 5500-X series firewall appliances.
Since ASA code version 8.3, there was a major change introduced into the NAT functionality by Cisco. We will cover the configuration for both pre-8.3 and current 9.x releases.
Basic Cisco ASA 5506-x Configuration Example
ASA 5506-X, 5508-X, 5516-X and 5585-X with FirePOWER modules are Cisco’s latest additions to their “next-generation” firewall family. This example covers how to configure basic ACL (Access Control List), Network Address Translation (NAT) and a simple DMZ network hosting WWW server. The equipment used in this example is Cisco ASA 5506-X running code 9.5(2). You do not need to have FirePOWER license to use this configuration template.
BGP Configuration Example for Multi-homed ISP Failover
The configuration example covers automatic ISP failover over uneven bandwidth circuits using HSRP, IP SLA and BGP technologies. The network is designed so that circuits with higher capacity and cheaper costs are utilized first. We keep the lower bandwidth or/and higher cost circuit as an “active” backup without losing the automatic failover provided by BGP.
